Eduard Schesler

Portrait of Eduard Schesler, postdoctoral researcher in mathematics

I am a Postdoc at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in the group of Roman Sauer. Before, I was a visiting researcher at Fudan University in Shanghai, where I was visiting Xiaolei Wu. Before that, I was a Junior Research Fellow at the Erwin Schrödinger Institute in Vienna and a member of the research group of Goulnara Arzhantseva. Before, I was a Postdoc at FernUniversität Hagen in the algebra group of Steffen Kionke. I completed my PhD at Universität Bielefeld under the supervision of Stefan Witzel. Prior to that, I earned my Bachelor and Master degrees at Universität Düsseldorf, where I wrote my Master thesis under the supervision of Oleg Bogopolski.

Research interests

Most of my research falls in the area of geometric group theory. I am particularly interested in groups that act on buildings, hyperbolic spaces, and Cantor sets. Aspects of groups that I am especially interested in include profinite invariants, amenability, Kazhdan's property (T), finiteness properties, hyperbolicity, and the asymptotic geometric and probabilistic behaviour of groups.
